The Need

In Texas, there are more than 6,000 children waiting for adoption. When children are removed from their birth families because of abuse or neglect and placed in the conservatorship of the state, a plan is made to return them if and when their birth families are able to provide safe and nurturing environments. 

If reunification is not possible, other permanency plans are made for the children, including placement with relatives. When all other options for permanency have been explored, sometimes the permanency plan becomes adoption. Buckner staff is dedicated to recruiting and approving loving adoptive homes for children currently waiting in the State's foster care system.  

Many of these children are over the age of 6, part of a sibling group or minority children. Because they have been abused or neglected, they come to adoptive parents with some challenges.  Buckner is committed to preparing families for those challenges and supporting families as they work through them. Buckner has a state-wide contract, which means you can be considered for children all over the state.
